I was been to Yogyakarta on January 2010. (I was trip jakarta-yogyakarta-bali-lombok-bandung with my friend Ghita and Gabby). I confused between using train or plane to go to Yogyakarta from Jakarta. People said it will be great use train on the day and see the view around the journey.
I checked the schedule of the train and the ticket price. If u want to save the money, u can use economic one but it's not in gambir station, but start from jatinegara station (the price less from 100000 I guess maybe 50K or 75K, I forget) but I didn’t want to use economic one. For me it's not comfortable, not save, noisy, always stop, and it would be terrible for me coz I should be there for around 10 hours.
So I checked the business and executive one. And it was expensive around 250k-300k http://hargatiketkeretaapi.com/65/harga-tiket-kereta-api-jakarta-yogyakarta-1-agustus-2010.html. And if I took day train, I will arrive around 17.00 and it will waste time in Yogyakarta for the hotel. But if I took the night train, I will not see the view. So what's the point?? I don’t want to sit for 10 hours for nothing coz sitting 10 hours would be terrible for me. I can’t sit for a long time, it will hurt my body. I checked Air Asia, I got price to Yogyakarta around 195K. It’s cheaper. So I decided to use airplane on the morning so I arrive in Yogyakarta around 8.30 am. (Good weather)
8 January 2010
We flew at 7 am from Soekarno Hatta airport. We arrived at 8.30 am in Adi Sucipto Airport. From airport, We didn’t use taxi because it’s expensive, around 50k. We prefer use Trans yogya around 2500 rupiah until malioboro. (U can ask people where the Trans yogya in airport is, u should walking around 5 minutes). Then We stopped in malioboro shuttle. We would stay in that area. There were many guest houses, cheap one in sastrtrowijayan street. Just walk around 5 minute from the shuttle. I slept in guest house price 120k because we were 3 people. You can get 70k if u were single traveller.
Then, We walked around malioboro until keraton Yogyakarta then from keraton used becak. It’s very cheap less 10K to Tamansari. Then We used becak from tamansari to malioboro again, I forget how much. You can buy any souvenir or batik or bag in bringharjo market. it's in malioboro area. It’s very cheap and its traditional market)
9 January 2011
The next day, We visited prambanan temple on the morning. We used Trans yogya until the last shuttle. Then we walked around 15 minutes. We were not just buy prambanan temple ticket but also boko temple ticket (they promoted on the locket about this temple). It’s not expensive. They picked us to the boko temple (outside prambanan area) with the car. We went to a hill and the temple on the peak of the hill (they said it will be great if u are there for the sunset)
We were there until 12 pm. We could see Yogyakarta town from that temple. It’s great. Then we back again to prambanan temple and the complex. It’s huge area actually (so we used the train also to go around the complex). We finished our trip to prambanan at 5 pm. and back to malioboro by trans yogya. On the night we went to Tugu statue (it's the Yogyakarta popular site)
10 Janury 2010
the next day morning, We visited Borobudur temple. It’s outside Yogyakarta (magelang) so no Trans yogya directly to Borobudur temple. But We didn’t want to use travel because it's expensive. We still used public transportation. First We used Trans yogya until the last shuttle, and then We used public bus (around 5000 I guess). The bus was economic one and was not in good condition. It was full of passengers and sometimes u should stand up. There were no place to sit. The journey took around 1 hour. From the terminal we had to walk around 15 minutes until the gate of Borobudur temple. The area of the temple was big. We finished enjoy Borobudur until 3 pm. then walked again to terminal and back to malioboro. Actually there was a temple near from Borobudur. I saw it when ı was in the public bus. But because we didn’t have time, we decided not to visit it.
11 January 2010
The next day, we just were shopping. And we visited Gadjah Mada University in Kali Urang. We tried Gudeg that popular one near the university. U should try gudeg, it's the most popular food in Yogyakarta (the price on that cafe around 13000 because it's popular place). You can get cheaper in other place I guess. Then on the night, we flew to Bali with Mandala airlines.
The food in Yogyakarta is mostly cheap. It was Less 10000 rupiah. I spent 750000 for 5 days in Yogyakarta including ticket jakarta-yogyakarta, transportation around yoga, food, ticket, hotel (sharing with 2 friends), and I was shopping in Bringharjo and malioboro around 150K-200K heheheh.. So actually my trip to Yogyakarta was cheap :) Enjoy Yogyakarta :)
